In Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday, American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson—the reigning world champion in the 100 meters—won the Olympic athletics teams selection test and qualified for the Paris Games with a time of 10 seconds and 71 hundredths.
If nothing stops it, Richardson’s Olympic debut will take place in Paris. She qualified for the Olympics in Eugene by winning the pre-Olympic trials, and she was disqualified from the Tokyo Games in 2021 after testing positive for marijuana.
The Texas athlete’s immense personality contributed to the debate surrounding her disqualification at the time. Three years later, Richardson made up for her mistakes by winning today’s semifinals and final and won the qualifying round on Friday (despite having an untied shoe).
After earning a berth in the summer competition in Europe, this is her historic comeback to the music scene. She hopes to generate more buzz with the help of her many long-time admirers and followers.
