Geneva’s Xinhua News Agency, June 1. The resolution on “Health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory (including East Jerusalem) and the occupied Syrian Golan” was approved by the 77th World Health Assembly. Following the vote, Ambassador Chen Xu, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, gave a speech in which he claimed that a major humanitarian crisis had been brought on by the ongoing postponement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Specifically, it is intolerable that the health situation in the occupied Palestinian territory keeps becoming worse. It is critical that the Palestinian problem, in particular the humanitarian situation, be resolved. China demands that the assault on Rafah halt immediately, that military actions against civilians, hospitals, etc., be discontinued, and that humanitarian access—including access to medical supplies—be guaranteed.
The “two-state solution” is the only workable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Chen Xu emphasized. China suggests calling for the earliest possible holding of a bigger, more powerful, and more successful international peace conference in order to develop a detailed schedule and plan for carrying out the “two-state solution” and eventually bring about peaceful cohabitation between Israel and Palestine.
